Learn the basics of home energy so you know where all all that money is going every month. And how you can lower that outflow to put more money in your back pocket. With, or without solar.
Currently, you are buying energy through the utility at their rates. Great! You can use power whenever you want and they charge you for it.
Solar functions the same exact way, you just change how you get your power. It’s now from the sun.
Whether you own your solar or lease (see FAQ) it, the panels and/or batteries are providing all the power you need. The best thing is there’s no unpredictable rate changes and you gain back control.
Your home uses X amount of Watts for all of its appliances. Over the course of an hour, this can be converted to watthours (wH). An average fridge uses about 550 Watts so over the course of an hour, a fridge uses 550 wH. Watts is a small figure so to make it easier, we measure energy in kilowatt hours (kWh). So, that same fridge uses 0.55 kWh
Most utilities are natural monopolies and have many rising costs:
-100+ year old infrastructure
-Natural disasters
-Higher demand at odd hours from A/C and EVs
-Lawsuits from wildfires
-Debt forgiveness programs
-Utility death spiral
Most utilities are shifting towards TOU or “demand pricing”. They will have higher costs depending on the time of day, usually when people are home. This will incentivize customers to adjust their lifestyle to use power outside of those times, such as laundry. Typically with solar, time of use becomes far less relevant.
Solar helps to replace the utility as your provider for energy. To lower your overall energy demand here are some upgrades to do:
-Replace lightbulbs with LED
-Install a Smart Thermostat to regulate your home
-Replace your HVAC system. Old HVAC systems can be inefficient energy users.
-Install a heat pump instead of a furnace to lower your gas bill and increase heating efficiency. There are rebates to do so.
-Replace your windows. Doing so can lower energy usage by 7-15%.
If you already have solar, this is the place for you. Learn more about how to manage your existing system, expand your capacity, or learn more about maintenance and cleaning.
We can’t delete the utility jusssst yet. Most utilities still have some sort of connection fee with solar and if you use more than your system produces, you will still get a bill called a “true-up”. Questions about your bill? Please reach out!
Not every home needs more solar and not every home can fit a battery. There may be other ways to solve the issue you are running into before adding on a cost you may not need to.
Cleaning solar panels is an important part of maintaining them, depending on where you live. In California, it is recommended to clean them at least once a year, right after the rainy season before peak sun like Late May/Early June. Panels can be cleaned with some light water in early morning or cool evening. You can also reach out to hire a cleaning crew.
It happens unfortunately. No one wants to go out of business. Most companies want to do something good but can’t predict the future. Your manufacturer’s warranties should still be in place. To get something serviced/repaired, you can enroll in an extended warranty or pay for labor out of pocket.

Power Purchase Agreement
-Replacing utility with solar as your new power provider, pay for power from the equipment at a fixed, negotiated rate.
Pros: $0 Down, 25 Year Warranty Even on Battery, 3rd Party Insured, No Debt, Clear Payoff Terms after Year 5, No Interest, No lien on home
Cons: No Tax Credits, Small Annual Increase, 25 Year Agreement
Best for: Those with no tax liability, those who don’t want debt, most short term savings
*A lease is very similar, without the power production guarantee and typically comes with a lien*
$0 Down Ownership
Financing equipment to produce all the power your home needs and stop paying the utility.
Pros: $0 Down, Fixed payments, Claim Tax Credits, Flexible Terms, No Prepayment Penalty, Ownership, Warrantied Work, No lien on home
Cons: Increased Debt-to-Income, Interest, Lesser warranties on battery than PPA
Best for: Those who want savings and a quick payoff but don’t have the cash. Other things/projects to spend money on but wanting to get rid of utility in the meantime. Best long-term savings.
Cash
Payoff your power bills for the remainder of the time you’re in the home.
Pros: Quickest payoff, Claim Tax Credits, Ownership, Warrantied Work
Cons: Cash tied up for 5-7 years, Could spend cash on other things
Best for: Those who have a pile of money lying around and want to dish it at their power bills. And a high tax liability.
A dealer is a solar broker. They are a sales person or org that has options with multiple installers. Not a bad thing, if they have a great reputation.
A lender of solar, funding projects so that installers can lessen their risk. They sometimes will warranty the work in the case of a lease or Power Purchase Agreement. Be careful of financers with low interest rates and huge package prices.
Whether you’re in the early stage of getting solar, locking down your final proposals, or trying to diagnose your existing system, Your Energy Best will ensure you get the best option for you when it comes to energy.

Solar isn’t perfect. Reality is, it lowers energy costs, creates less emissions for energy over time, and extends our energy time horizon to develop even better solutions rather than continue relying on burning fossil fuels. They will all need to get taken down and recycled at some point.
We have a beautiful world and the goal is to keep it that way.
Our mission is to create the best customer experience possible with solar so that more people want to do it and create a better environment overall. In the meantime, to invest back in our environment so our future generations can continue to enjoy it.

Understand all the nitty gritty about solar.
Solar panels work by converting sunlight into electricity through a process called the photovoltaic effect. Solar cells within the panels capture sunlight and generate direct current (DC) electricity, which is then converted into alternating current (AC) electricity by an inverter for use in homes and businesses.
That depends a lot on how much energy you use and how much sun you get.
The higher energy use, the more panels you’ll need to produce enough power so you don’t draw from the utility.
The more sun those panels get (in the Northern Hemisphere we love south faces), the more power they produce. So the better sun you get, the less total panels you need.
Solar panels are designed to last for 25 years or more, with many manufacturers offering warranties ranging from 25 to 30 years. With regular maintenance, solar panels can continue to generate electricity efficiently for decades.
Cash is one of the ways to go solar but the least common.
Most people these days either do a lease/Power Purchase Agreement (solar installer owns the equipment) or finance their system for ZERO ($0) down. This means they can go green without having the upfront cash, reducing their monthly expenditures. Reach out to Your Energy Best to find out which option is right for you.
While solar panels are most effective in direct sunlight, they can still generate electricity on cloudy days due to diffuse sunlight. However, their output may be reduced. Solar panels do not generate electricity at night, but excess energy generated during the day can be stored in batteries for use during nighttime.
Solar panels require minimal maintenance, typically limited to periodic cleaning to remove dust, debris, and bird droppings. Cleaning is best done after the rainy season and right before summer begins. Your solar app (Enphase Enlighten, Solaredge, Tesla, etc.) will help monitor the sytem. Reach out to your installer, manufacturer, or Your Energy Best if you have any questions or concerns.
There is a 30% federal tax credit for owning solar. Consult with your tax advisor to see if you qualify.
Financial incentives for solar panel installations vary by location but may include state and local rebates, net metering programs, and solar renewable energy certificates (SRECs). These incentives can significantly reduce the upfront cost of installing solar panels and provide long-term savings on energy bills.
The efficiency of solar panels depends on factors such as the quality of solar cells, sunlight intensity, temperature, shading, and panel orientation. Higher-quality panels with advanced technology tend to have higher efficiency ratings.
